A country escape
Having somewhere to escape to in the countryside was never a luxury or a nice-to-have—it was something I deeply needed, and something I longed to create for my family.
I've always been a country person at heart. We were looking for somewhere within easy reach of Paris, but that felt truly rural, not suburban — a real escape, not simply an extension of city life.
A place where children could roam freely, meals would linger, and the changing seasons would become part of everyday life. A place that offered a genuine escape, where nature set the pace.
Friends who had visited Le Moulin spoke highly of it and encouraged us to discover it for ourselves.
From the moment we arrived, we understood exactly what they meant.
The Magic of Le Moulin
There is a magnetism to Le Moulin that is difficult to describe. The moment you pass through the gate, something shifts. It feels as though you have crossed into another world—a place where time slows, the senses awaken and a quiet magic begins to unfold.
The gate feels almost like a portal, carrying you away from the pace and pressures of everyday life and into a world of creativity, nourishment, connection and restoration.
A place where something in you softens, simply by being there.
A Shared Connection to Water
Although we come from very different worlds, we share the same connection to water. I grew up in an idyllic river valley in the south west of England, and Karim on the Mediterranean coast of Tunisia. Water has always shaped the way we experience home, offering a sense of peace, vitality, and belonging.
Perhaps that is why Le Moulin spoke to us so deeply.
Water has a way of slowing us down, restoring perspective and reminding us of life's quieter rhythms.
A Full Restoration
Our aim was never to erase the past, but to honour it—to preserve the character, craftsmanship and imperfections that give old buildings their soul, while creating a warm and welcoming home for modern living.
We knew that we were committing to something far more than a property renovation project. We knew the restoration of the mill would require years of dedication, unwavering patience, and every ounce of energy we possessed.
Yet from the beginning, we also knew it would be a labour of love. We were completely captivated by its magnetic energy, its quiet beauty, its serenity, and its immense potential. The spell was cast.
Restoring Balance and Harmony
Our intention was never simply to restore an old mill. It was to restore balance and harmony — to honour the land, to preserve the character and integrity of its historic buildings, and to create a sanctuary where people can slow down, reconnect with themselves and the natural world, and leave feeling deeply nourished.
Over time, our hope is that Le Moulin becomes more than simply a place to stay—a place where families reconnect, friends gather, creativity flourishes, and nature quietly restores.
